Link-O-Rama

There are times that I can sound downright apocolyptic. Like I happen to believe there will be huge famines in our futures, not just Africa but us, here, US, North America. And here we are, now eating, worldwide, more food than is produced.

And then, there is catastrophic farming, which is really what we are all eating. Our preferred food plants are all produced in more profusion after catastrophies. Like plowing. Or deep mulching. Or flooding. Or fire.

Most people are rather fond of eating. If you want to keep eating, it would probably be good to grow more/most of it yourself. At least check out the idea for the 100 mile diet, not that I'm giving up bananas or olive oil, coffee or tea, or wheat from Montana for that matter, but I could. And I'm certainly not giving up chocolate -- although as long as I have pork fat I'd probably actually be ok. Speaking of which, beans with backbone is what's for dinner tonight, with a side of gooseberry pie, and that is all part of the 100 yard diet of course.

And one more link, because this one was just too good. Jesus loves a machine gun. This guy is a good writer.

Thanks for the links! Strange, but I find stuff like this reassuring. It might sound terrifying to a naive urbanite, or sound like depressing doom-drivel to a technoptomist, but to me it's affirmation that I'm not crazy, I'm on the right track (if only taking my baby steps on the first faint bit of a trail).

Well, I don't think I ever see anything technical that doesn't affirm this. What amazes me is how many people deny it

I just wanted to say that I admire and respect how you live your life and how your footprint is narrow on this earth. When our lives are at the point that we can diverge off the beaten path, I would like to be at the place you are.
Thanks for your words and images. May we all take heart!

Amen to the pork fat! Thankfully, we have a local organic meat guy...chicken, pork, beef, and now turkey. I am marinating some of his pork bacon right now for smoking. Last batch was crazy good!

Joe! You are sounding like Tom Robbins! Everything is sacred, nothing is holy: nothing is sacred, everything is holy. Or whatever that quote from the Chink is.
