Jack-O-Lantern Crew

Posted by Picasa

We designed and sewed costumes, created magical decorations, gathered ingredients we’d grown and used them to prepare the delectable feast.

The feast features pumpkin soup. We saved the seeds but right now we’re not sure what the cultivar was, but it is a great one! Small, very useable size pumpkin, thick and fine fleshed. Cooked with just barely enough water, then mashed smooth, chicken broth and milk added to thin, then spiced with caramelized onions, garlic, curry, ginger, basil, salt. Sides of pear salad (like apple salad but with pears freshly gathered from our trees) and a green salad. Undergirded with freshly baked whole wheat bread.

Is that tall scary-looking one at the back anyone we know?

Do you know my eldest child from a previous incarnation perhaps? I did think the "bone pirates" turned our rather well. The Indian did all the sewing on the costumes. I helped a bit with conceptualization and breaking the process down into steps in order, while husband did the belt buckles, the bones, and calming me and the seamstress when we'd get stressed.

The littlest one's make-up wouldn't all come off around his eyes right away and for awhile he looked rather like Johnny Depp's version of Capt. Jack Sparrow, only cuter. The green faced one is Frankenstein, which didn't seem to be obvious to people but I thought she looked great.

A little post actually goes with these photos but I probably won't get it up until tomorrow.

But hey, didn't those pumpkins turn out well? They did those all themselves too. Eat your ghoul heart out Justrose! (love ya!)

I wasn't sure of scale - I thought maybe it was you!

He's 13 and has had at least one of the hormone laced growth spurts (nearly as tall as I am, has his "man nose" and his "man voice") and is such a sweet and delightful boy man. The others are 10, 8, and 5 (nearing 6) currently.
