Mix Suggestions Please

I am not the world's hippest person, I suppose that much is obvious. But I do enjoy a great variety of good music, and I especially enjoy the mix CDs that my much hipper friend Laura sometimes makes for me.

So I have been playing with making a few mix CDs myself. And I have this auditory "vision" (hallucination?) of The Stuart Smalley Mix CD. And I need suggestions for all sorts of songs to go on it. All genres welcome. I don't want to put down here the ones I'm thinking of because I don't want people to think their favorites are not enough like the ones I already have in mind. Should I eventually get this CD together, I will post the song list here and we can all listen to our musical affirmations together!

I'd like to put a vote in for Gordon Lightfoot's Canadian Railroad Trilogy.

I just figured out who Stuart Smalley is. I guess I'm even less hip than you are. So now I'd like to suggest "Waltzing With Bears", which was the song Chive and I danced to at our wedding, courtesy of Dr. Suess.

I too am very unhip, so as soon as I find out who Stuart Smalley is I'll come back with some ideas.

Besides, I think it's very uncool to be 'Hip'.

Well, since it's just a few minutes since I first heard of Stuart Smalley, I don't know if I'm on the right track, but here are some songs that I find affirming.
Keb'mo - More Than One Way Home
Bruce Guthro - Good Love
The Bill Hilly Band - Bulkley Valley Home
The Mavericks - Pizzirico
Ian Tyson - Own Heart's Delight, The Coyote & the Cowboy, Springtime
Connie Kaldor - Wood River
Don Williams - I Believe in You

I guess there's quite a Canadian slant to my collection. Enjoy!

And one more:
The Traveling Wilburys - End of the Line

how about Natalie Merchant's Beloved Wife. Soulful and marriage affirming.

How about "You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman"?

Interesting? Sorry, you've got the wrong number. I'm cultivating extreme dullness as an expression of individuality.

Re not knowing about Saturday Night Live, well, I grew up in a pretty straight-laced home. Dukes of Hazard was a sign that the world was going to hell in a hurry.

Oh, he's a TV personality...
Sorry, I don't have one of those, I really am out of it, but I did
look him up on the web and so I'll suggest some Randy Newman songs for your mix.

'Political Science', 'God's Song' and 'Short People' for starters.
And how about the track 'Hunger Is From' from the classic 1958 Word Jazz album by Ken Nordine.
'I'm Ready' by John Hammond.
Little Boxes' by Malvina Reynolds.
And don't forget 'Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee' by Sticks McGhee, that's a must for a Stuart Smalley mix.

Doc Watson's and/or Jerry Garcia's version of "Shady Grove"

Glenn Campbell's and/or Johnny Cash's version of "Wichita Lineman" (Johnny's is especially good)

'Affirmation' by George Benson

...now there's an affirming tune for you.
